Dollar Index Outlook November 2026: DXY Holds Near 102 as the Fed, Midterms and Jobs Data Loom

dollar index outlook

Key points on dollar index outlook

  • The dollar index (DXY) closed October at 101.88, up about 0.4–0.5% on the month.
  • It touched an 18-month high near 102.9 in mid-October, then eased as an AI-led stock sell-off pushed US yields lower.
  • November’s main tests: the US midterms (3–4 Nov), the jobs report (6 Nov) and CPI (10 Nov).
  • Key levels: support at 101.50 and 101.00; resistance at 102.50 and 102.94.

What happened in October

Measure Level
DXY close, 30 October 101.88
October change About +0.4–0.5%
October high Near 102.9 (mid-October; highest since April 2025)
Late-October low ~101.45–101.54
52-week range 95.55–102.94
DXY, 2 November ~101.92–101.96

First half: the dollar climbed. The dollar rose early in October, driven by surging Treasury yields, with the 10-year near 5.3%, and oil above $100. Hot US inflation in September added to expectations of further Fed hikes.

Second half: the dollar eased. The Fed held at 3.75–4.00% on 28 October in a 10–2 vote, and the dollar slipped after Chair Warsh’s press conference. Strong Q3 GDP (3.4%) briefly lifted the dollar, but a global sell-off in technology and AI stocks then pushed investors into government bonds. The dollar fell for three straight sessions toward 101.5 as Treasury yields dropped.

What drives the dollar in November

  1. The Fed’s December decision. Markets price about a 78% chance of a Fed hike on 9 December. Strong jobs and inflation data would firm that view and support the dollar.
  2. US yields and the AI sell-off. If the tech sell-off deepens, money may keep flowing into Treasuries. Lower yields would weigh on the dollar, even if the move is driven by risk aversion.
  3. The US midterms. Prediction markets favoured a Democratic House win. Analysts have said a surprise matters more for markets than the expected result.
  4. Other central banks. The ECB, BoJ and BoE are all leaning toward tightening. If they move closer to hikes while the Fed’s path is already priced, the rate gap that has supported the dollar could narrow.
  5. Oil. Brent rose 13.6% in October. High oil keeps US inflation and yields elevated, which tends to support the dollar.

DXY key levels and scenarios

Level Price Why it matters
Resistance 102.94 52-week high (mid-October)
Resistance 102.50 Early-October high (5 October)
Current ~101.9 Start of November
Support 101.45–101.50 Late-October lows
Support 101.00 Round-number level

Forecast ranges: Cambridge Currencies sees DXY trading between 99 and 102.5 in November. Model-based forecasts from Long Forecast and Forecasts.org point to a November level around 102.3–102.8.

Possible scenarios:

  • If US jobs and CPI data are strong and the midterms pass without surprise, December hike odds are likely to firm. DXY could retest 102.50 and then 102.94.
  • If the AI sell-off deepens or US data softens, yields may fall further. DXY could break below 101.50 toward 101.00.
  • If the midterm result surprises, sharp swings are possible on 4 November, during Indian trading hours.

Impact on Indian traders

USD/INR: The dollar index is one of the main external drivers of USD/INR. The rupee strengthened about 1.2% in October as the dollar eased late in the month and RBI measures took effect. A rebound in DXY toward 102.5 would likely pressure the rupee, while a break below 101.5 could give it more room. USD/INR ended October near 94.93.

INR crosses: A weaker dollar usually lifts EUR/USD and GBP/USD, which can push EUR/INR and GBP/INR higher as well.

Currency pairs on NSE: NSE lists USD/INR, EUR/INR, GBP/INR and JPY/INR, plus EUR/USD, GBP/USD and USD/JPY. Trading forex with unauthorised offshore platforms is not permitted under FEMA.
